Talk To My Lawyer
Mrs. Hyde Speaks Up
I traded text messages with a guy friend. Nothing crazy, just friendly banter that left me smiling. Later, at a benefit party for a girlfriend’s uncle, another text came in. Smiling, I flipped open my phone to see what my friend had to say and my stomach dropped when I saw the display…it was from Mr. Hyde.
He asked if he could call me later and talk. After the onslaught of emails, it was time for me to stop the drama. It needed to end NOW. I sent back ‘fine’ and prepared myself for the call by heading home early.
Mr. Hyde pleaded his case again for the dirty pictures and I stood firm telling him it wasn’t going to happen and this needed to stop. I was done with the drama and ready to move on. He said he wasn’t, but he would respect my decision. Despite the sadness in his tone, I didn’t give in or back down. I told him to stop emailing and calling. The only reason for us to talk would be the divorce, house issues, or the tax stimulus check we were still waiting on. For 10 minutes we talked and I thought he finally heard me.
My girlfriend said she gave it less than a week before he was emailing me again…it was less than 24 hours. I got a text the next day telling me he was depressed and to call to talk if I wanted to; I didn’t want to.
The following day things got worse. His unanswered text became nasty email after nasty email, and when I didn’t reply to those, the text messages started. I told him to stop; this was harassment, but he wouldn’t and proceeded to tell me his onslaught was my fault because I wouldn’t do the one thing he asked of me (not the call, the dirty pictures of course!)
