An Open Letter To Nanny

The World According To Kiki & J-Fed

Dear Nanny,

You left this morning and I’ve been feeling depressed ever since. Our time together with short but so sweet. It was the best six weeks I’ve had in the last six years. Let me tell you why…

In the mornings, you woke up at 6:45 a.m. and got my daughter ready for school while I was at the gym. J-Fed slept…

When I got home from the gym, you greeted me with a smile and said good morning. J-Fed growled as he crawled out of bed and reached for a cigarette and a Frap…

You asked me if I had a lot of work to do today. J-Fed left for work without so much as a goodbye just a grunt…

We went out for sushi at lunch and laughed. J-Fed basically served a side of meanness during his afternoon phone call.

You asked me if I needed any help when it was time to make dinner. J-Fed barged through the door and asked what I was cooking for supper.

While I cleared the table, you did the dishes. J-Fed sauntered back into the garage for his nightly cigarette and frap.

We went to the mall and you watched the kids while I tried on clothes. J-Fed asked me what I had bought him when I got back home.

At night, we watched movies and ate popcorn. J-Fed worked on his go-cart out in the garage.

You were polite. You were helpful. You were quiet. You were funny. You were caring. You were everything that J-Fed should be.

You weren’t just a nanny; you were like my makeshift mate. Now, that you’re gone I’m all alone again. But I’ll think of you often. I’ll think of you when I run around the house in the mornings trying to do everything. I’ll think of you when the baby cries. I’ll think of you when I’ve got the baby under one arm and I’m stir-frying steak with the other arm. I’ll think of you every time I watch J-Fed sit back and sip on his frap and smoke his cigarette.

Nanny, every woman everywhere should have one of you.

You showed me that money truly can by happiness.
