Ask Louder
Miss Ogamy and the Men
I was lying on the floor in Bubba’s room, setting and resetting my Hot Wheels on my side of the track when I felt the baby kicking. Quickly I called Bubba over to feel his baby brother or sister for the first time. He pressed his little hand to my stomach and waited. Then surprise spread across his face.
“She’s trying to get out!” he exclaimed.
“No, Baby,” I laughed, “She’s too young to get out. She needs God to help her grow some more.”
“She’s asking Jesus for help to grow?” he asked, staring up at me with those inquisitive baby blues.
“Yes,” I agreed. What an innocent explanation for the complex things happening within my body.
Bubba crawled closer and pressed his head very gently against my belly. I stroked his hair, thinking he was being affectionate. Then suddenly he looked up at me and said “She’s not asking loud enough."
