Better Never Than Late

Mrs. B’s Bemusements

Mr. B is not a punctual person. He does what he when he wants period.

I was a late bloomer when it came to driving. I always dated guys who drove, two of my girlfriends got cars very young. I lived in an area with fantastic public transportation so there was never a big urge for me to get a car -- besides the fact that the princess in me started asking for a brand new car at age 15. My parents said no. They thought a license should come first.

Back to Mr. B. Not that it was every single day but he used to run me on errands, drop me at parties, take me shopping, take me to work & school; it was kind of cool. I rarely asked him to do this since I was very self-sufficient. Plus the fact that he had no concept of time was a problem.

Here's what was uncool...

If he just happened to pass by my job an hour before I got off he would come in & say "I'm here, let's go." He would then whine for the next hour wondering why I couldn't leave, he was tired/hungry/bored. Yet he stayed, aggravating both of us as well as anyone who happened to be with us.

If we had spent the night together we would have screaming fits in the morning because he thought I had to be in work too early.

There were many times he kept me waiting and not just a few minutes. His average was usually 15-20 minutes - even though we lived less than 10 minutes away from each other.
We would arrive late everywhere -- parties, concerts, movies. I considered this very rude and very disrespectful toward me.

One day I was waiting for him to pick me up after class. That was my breaking point. I sat in front of the main gate for half an hour. I finally walked the three blocks to the bus stop. This particular stop was on the corner at an intersection with a traffic light. I only had to wait a few minutes and here came the bus.
The direction the bus was coming from had the green light. As the bus slows at the stop I see Mr.B pull to a stop at his red light. I did pause for a second since it was two buses and an hour-long ride to get home.
