How We Spend Our 4th

Mrs. B’s Bemusements

There is a reason why it's called independence day, men and women do their own thing in entirely different ways on July 4th. A typical fourth for us is me leaving the house somewhere between 10 a.m. and noon to go to a ballgame, beach, pool etc.

Some time in the late afternoon early evening I go to friends' houses/block parties (unless I'm already there) to  help with BBQ preps. Then it's time for eating, drinking, dancing, bullshitting, stuff like that.

Somewhere around 10 p.m. I might remember to watch fireworks. Then I stick around to help clean up, bandage the wounded, apologize to police and neighbors. I go home around 1 a.m., say goodnight to Mr. B & go to sleep.

Now don't get me wrong, we had a really fun fourth of July together the first year we were dating. There have also been a few fun ones in between but for the most part we are independent. What does he do while I'm out? Watches war movies & Twilight Zone marathons.

This year we are here at home, hence this post. Here is our day so far…
Mrs. B gets out of bed, washes up, gets something to drink and goes to sit outside to wake up.
Mr.  B  wakes up 20 minutes later. I know this because I hear him stomping through the house & then he yells out "hey, where'd ya go?" (I do the same thing every morning, rain, shine, hot, cold, he knows this.)
We go in after about half an hour of chitchatting. He starts fussing around with his computer so I click on the TV. A few minutes later....

Mr. B: Give me the remote.
Mrs. B: I'm watching this
Mr. B: I don't want to watch this
Mrs. B: It's almost over, I'll give you the remote then.

Mr. B makes some faces & noises. Mr. B heads back to his computer puts on his headphones and goes to war with his LAN friends.
