I Love The Nightlife

The World According To Kiki & J-Fed

Things had been going good the last couple of days… too good.

Everything had been in perfect order, despite J-Fed’s feeble attempt, I mean accident, to set my house on fire. The kids were off to school. I had been getting plenty of work done. The new puppy was settling in. And I even scored myself a date with a nice boy, who presented me graciously with a single rose after our encounter. That in itself earned him some major points.

As it was a school night, my date and I called it an early evening. Ironically, the real action didn’t take place until some time around 1 a.m. I had turned in a couple of hours earlier and was determined to sleep through the night at all costs. However, it wasn’t long before my sweet little puppy was calling me from his crate with a high-pitch squeal. I scampered to the family room and let him out.

As I sat on the porch, I started to drift off back to sleep. I waited for him to piddle… and waited some more. And then I waited a little while longer. After about 10 minutes, it was apparent he wasn’t going to take a leak. I went to open the French doors and turned the knob to the side. Nothing. I tried again. Nothing.

Oh. My. God. I was locked out of the house and it was 1:30 a.m. Two kids and one dog = inside. Kiki and puppy = outside. Panic-stricken, I tried the door again and again and again. This couldn’t be happening. “Someone”, whether it was daughter, Kuku or even big boy, had pushed in the bottom lock, a major no-no in the house. I’d instructed everyone time and time again to ONLY USE THE DEADBOLT to prevent this exact scenario from happening.

I felt like crying. You see, I have that house locked up like Fort Knox. It would take a SWAT team or a decent hammer to get in. And in this case, I got out, but I sure couldn’t get back in. My only hope was daughter, sleeping peacefully in my bed. Now there are two windows in my room. Lately, if I even sneeze, daughter is up at my heels following me around the house at all hours of the night. I crossed my fingers and pleaded she would hear my banging.
