Never Enough

Tales of a Newlywed

No matter what I do it is never enough. I am a full time student. I work part-time. I do ALL the cooking and cleaning. I even take care of the cat by myself. However, all I hear everyday is how I do nothing. If I come home after work and say I am tired I got to listen to “Why? What do you have to be tired about? You just stand around all day.” (I am a cashier at a store). “You don’t even work much. (I work four days a week) Why don’t you work more hours?”

If I ask him to please turn down the stereo because I have a paper to type on the computer I get to listen to, “Why do I have to turn down the music just so you can play on the internet?”

Normally we both get home at the same time at night -- 6 p.m. I walk in, start dinner and while it is cooking I do the breakfast dishes, feed the cat, straighten up the house, you know just general clean up stuff. He comes in and sits on the couch and starts playing video games. So I am in the middle of doing the cat’s litter box and yell to him to check on the food in the oven. He doesn’t move from the couch, but does yell back about how he does everything and I do nothing. Same crap, different day.

I am so sick of this. Problem is I really can’t anything about it. I have tried everything. I have begged, nagged, pleaded, yelled, asked nicely, bribed, and even went on strike (more than once) all to get him to help me out. When I ask nicely he always says, "okay I will help" and just never does. When I yell, he yells back. If I beg and plead that I am tired and need some help, he asks what I have to be tired about. If I nag, he ignores me, leaves, or says that I am annoying him.

Finally, I have tried bribing him with candy, with sex, with anything. This was hard for me because I couldn’t stand the dirty dishes and everything, but I held out because I thought this way would definitely work. Wrong. It did nothing. I have gone on strike several times. That does no good. I stopped cooking and cleaning, figuring he would see how much I do and appreciate me and help me out. What happened? Nothing. The food went bad because no one was cooking it, the dishes and dirt piled up, and he did nothing.
