Partners In Crime

Best. Weekend. Ever. Recently, I went on a murder mystery camping weekend and it was anexperience I’ll never forget. 14 hours of physical, mental, and emotional tests. What started at 7am in the pouring rain, didn’t end until after 9pm when a winner was declared. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my team, but we were at the next to last clue…so close!

My team worked well together and I’m proud of us. 14 hours total, we spent at least 6 of those hours hiking up mountains, trails, climbing ladders, swimming through streams all in the pouring rain, slogging through mud. We went through 2 tanks of gas and drove for hours to different locations for clues.Frustrated with some of the tasks, never once did we take it out on each other. My sister, her husband,me, and my girlfriend J will be teaming up again next year...our teamwork is what got us so close to winning.

I ran up the mountains, climbed those ladders, and slogged through the mud never giving up. My endurance, strength, and perseverance reminded me of when I completed the marathon. I’m capable of so much more than I give myself credit for. Why in the heck should a few set-backs in life or love bother me? I can endure much more than that petty little crap! I’m a strong, resilient, worthy woman…why would I settle for someone who doesn’t want to put in the effort a real relationship requires? If I’m all in…why would I settle for someone who doesn’t have the same dedication?

All this time I’ve thought my relationships haven’t worked out because of some defect on my part, but a relationship is a partnership…teamwork. The camping weekend proved to me I’m capable of incredible teamwork, but it’s all about the partners you choose. They have to work well together with skills that complement each other; negotiate; compromise and above all else, communicate well with each other. Every member of our team contributed to our success on the hunt.
