The Clothes Don't Make The Man

Anony Miss

"I don't have anything to wear!"

She couldn't count the number of times that he'd uttered those words. It was at least a few times a week. Whenever they had some place to go, he'd tear the room apart in an effort to find one decent outfit. Yet it was an exercise in futility. Fed up with hearing him rant and rave about his wardrobe issues, she took matters into her own hands.

She went out and bought him shirts, shorts and pants oh my. She picked out each article with care. It was a kind gesture, one that most likely go unappreciated after the first time he wore them. And that's precisely how it happened.

Within a couple of days, she noticed that he was wearing the new clothes to work. She had no problem with him getting his hands dirty, but did he have to do it in the brand new clothes she had bought him? They were to wear, not wear and tear. As she watched him prepare to leave the house in a new shirt and shorts, she became irate.

"I didn't buy you those to work in. I bought those clothes for when we go out. You're going to ruin them!" she seethed.

He changed... the first time. But just a day later, she noticed he was once again about to go to work in the new digs. This time, he refused to change and threw his hands up in the air. As he walked out the door, she figured a way to fix him, for once and for all.

While he was at work, she gathered up all of the clothes she had purchased. One by one, she hid them away for a rainy day. She refused to let her riches turn to rags. He could be as angry as he wanted. However, they both knew that technically speaking his clothes were "her clothes."

Maybe next time, he'd take what she said to heart.
