The fault of "no-fault"
The Ex Files
I'm wondering if anyone reading this site really believes in no fault divorce. I don't buy into the premise. I think the majority of divorces happen because somebody (or everybody) screwed up. Somebody cheated. Somebody was abusive. Somebody took someone for granted. Somebody didn't hold up their end of the bargain. Somebody didn't want to work at it.
So what do I want? I want accountability. I think the idea of a no-fault divorce lets people off the hook. I want people to think seriously before they get married. It's why I hate that show "The Bachelor". I watch that program like I'm watching a train wreck. How do those women possibly believe that they can truly fall in love with a complete stranger while they're competing with a house full of other bimbos???? And when they don't get a rose, they get all weepy and say shit like, "I know I'm perfect for him. Why couldn't he see it?" And I want to yell at the TV, "Because you're pathetic!" "The Bachelor" is a reality show that has very little basis in reality.
It used to be that if you did something wrong in a marriage and got divorced because of it, you paid for it. You forked over a lot of alimony or you didn't get custody of your kids. I think if you're stupid enough or mean enough to cause a divorce you should get your ass handed to you by some pissed off judge. Of course if a couple wants to break it off amicably, more power to them.
I guess I'm craving more accountability in our society in general. I'm particularly upset about that horrible story of the 13-year-old girl in Missouri - Megan Meier- who killed herself after receiving a critical message on the MySpace social networking site from someone she thought was a boy named "Josh." Turns out Josh was the family down the street trying to see if Megan was saying mean things about their daughter. So they played with Megan's mind a bit and ultimately sent her some critical emails -including one that said the world would be better off without her - and not knowing that Megan was actually dealing with depression, they managed to push enough buttons that she finally went into her room and hanged herself. I would love to call those people and ask them what the F were they thinking? I'd like to put them in a stockade. Or hang signs around their necks that say "I killed Megan" and make them stand out in the town square.
